In this lesson we’re going to zoom in on your generator and start some detailed work on your breathing, more specifically: Your inhalation technique.

The Why:

Now before you start learning breathing technique I want to make sure that you know why it is important to learn this. The goal of your breath practice is that you learn to control the air stream that you send to your vocal folds, so that it is steady all the way from the beginning of your phrases to the end of your phrases. This technique is crucial for you to have an agile balanced voice because without a steady air stream the vocal folds have inefficient vibration, and you cannot manipulate your resonance well. This affects for example your ability to sing with power and do vocal riffs and runs which is something that most of us singers aim to achieve. So, you can see why learning breathing technique is valuable.

In this lesson we’re going to focus on your exhalation technique so that you can start creating that steady stream of air that generates a nice vibration in your vocal folds.

In this final lesson on breathing technique we’re going to focus on your breath support, that means were going to focus on supporting your vocal folds with the right amount of air for optimal vibration, both in relation to the time it takes to breath and the pitch you sing.

In this lesson we’re going to zoom in on the second building block of your voice, the vibrator, which is your vocal folds. As the air pass through them it generates the vibrations that is your voice. Many students of singing experience constriction in their singing and I want to focus this lesson on doing everything we can to allow your vocal folds to vibrate freely now that you are supplying them with a solid stream of breath control ;-)

In this lesson we are going back to the second building block in your voice, the vibrator, and you’re going to learn about the two main registers of your voice: The head voice and the chest voice.

Getting comfortable with my head voice was a huge step in singing higher notes and adding a softer color to my voice. Accessing your head voice is also a key foundation in managing the vocal break and singing high with power.
